I certainly appreciate this discussion being furthered in any form; I don't think technology-addicted Americans even give pause to consider the effects of exposure to unnatural energies on ourselves, let alone our developing babies.

I like to assume a common-sense approach to these things: ULTRA SOUND waves, in a liquid environment. NOT natural, NOT NORMAL, not EVER before done in the history of humans or other creatures. So why make it common now? Why not limit the unnatural and support the most pure, simple, un-accoutered process possible?

I believe this is where the American for-profit "healthcare" system comes in and insists that every easy moneymaker SHOULD be pursued, thus ultrasounds march on. But I definitely value the consideration of the tenuousness, the fragility, of those early, unknown moments of cellular division, replication, and organization. We humans have a scientific understanding that is far, far inferior to the actual PROCESS of pregnancy that takes place, and I feel we should do everything possible to nourish that process as naturally as we are able to, without technology's creeping interference. Ultra sound waves 'sound like' interference to me, and if I were in a liquid environment, where intricate chemical, hormonal, cellular-level communications were occurring to design my very essence, I would appreciate all the clarity and quiet possible! Thus I gave that to my baby, Brome. Cheers!

Thank you sharing for your concerns and resources regarding the risks of prenatal ultrasound. I am the author of "Questions about Prenatal Ultrasound and the Alarming Increase in Autism," published in 2006 in Midwifery Today. You can find my article as well other well-researched articles about ultrasound online at http://midwiferytoday.com -- just visit the site and do a search for "ultrasound."

This imaging technology was embraced before its safety was well established and has been changing rapidly ever since, with significant changes in technology, number of applications and gestational windows of exposure. Proper oversight, training and safety studies have been sadly lacking.

These same issues were being discussed seriously about the time I was pregnant with you, V. I watched my friends having children: all of those (honestly, all) who delivered in hospital had C-sections, even though none of them had had high-risk pregnancies. I was working in the health industry myself at the time and was watching the Cesarean rate skyrocket. There was a lot of controversy and discussion and then it sort of.... just went away. The trend went to birthing centers and more "natural" birthing methods. More or less. Anyway, you were born at home because, compared to the friends who had hospital births, all the friends who had home births had lovely experiences without any complications whatsoever. There was NO apparent difference whatsoever in the health, genetics, etc. of the people who had had hospital births vs those who had home births and yet all the hospital births resulted in complications. I'm not stupid, I could see the writing on the wall and I basically said about the health care system and pregnancy "They're not going to take me alive!" I swore I'd go out in the woods and hang from a tree if necessary lol! And, lo and behold, we had a home birth without complications in a lovely, smooth environment. No surprise to me.

Now the C-section rate is skyrocketing again. The old adage "Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it" comes to mind. Thank you my daughter, for continuing to make people aware of the dangers of mindlessly following "the system" as opposed to making mindful, informed, conscious choices for themselves and their children!
